MBPS is when an individual, generally the mother, purposefully makes their child sick, or convinces other that the individual is sick. This is one of the most harmful categories of child abuse, as usually the child believes they are sick as well.
Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome (also called Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, and Factitious Disorder by Proxy) is a pattern of behavior in which caretakers deliberately exaggerate, fabricate, and induce physical and/or psychological-behavioral-mental health problems on others.This pattern of behavior of Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome constitutes a separate kind of maltreatment (abuse/neglect) that manifests as physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, or a combination. The primary purpose of this behavior is to gain some form of internal gratification, such as attention, for the perpetrator.
