Are There Any Good Lawyers in Los Angeles?
A Guide To Finding Great Lawyers in Los Angeles
FACT: Los Angeles County has the most lawyers who have been suspended, put on probation, or disbarred (prohibited to practice law ever again) for committing serious crimes such as stealing from their clients, lying in court, and in some cases even violent crimes.
The numbers don't lie.
According to the State Bar of California, in 2019 alone there were 124 lawyers who were disciplined for committing unethical acts in Los Angeles.
While this number is staggering, we have put things into perspective. Los Angeles is the largest county in
California and as such has the most licensed active lawyers in the state.
So how do you tell a good lawyer from a bad one?
Are all lawyers dishonest? The short answer is no, there are some outstanding lawyers in Los Angeles and unfortunately for them, sometimes the actions of a few scumbags reflect on the group as a whole.
Being a good lawyer takes honesty, consideration, respect for the rule of law, consistency, and compassion. It also takes a lot of hard work and dedication to the profession.
The purpose of this post is not to generalize and to scare you away from lawyers, its is to make you realize that you must dig a little deeper when choosing someone to represent you in court.
Find an expert in the area of law related to your legal issue. Don't call your buddy's bankruptcy lawyer to handle your divorce.
Visit the State Bar of California's website and look up their license, and make sure there are not involved in an ongoing investigation of some sort.
Get a lawyer referral from a reputable source, certified lawyer referral services or local bar associations are good starting points.
When you find a reputable California Lawyer
Consideration and respect go both ways, most lawyers I know are great and honest people who deserve recognition for their hard and consistent work.
Be kind and forthcoming with your lawyer, being involved in a lawsuit is better handled when you work as a team.
